As more people watch endless hours of their favorite Netflix, Hulu, and HBO programs, one event professional is aiming to capitalize on that insatiable appetite for content. Learn how Jenna Baker wants to put her new DES certification to work in her role at BCD Meetings & Events.
BCD Meetings & Events in New York City uses a variety of digital events, from simple web-ex meetings or webinars to broadcasting product launches to virtual audiences. That’s why Jenna Baker, the company’s director of performance optimization, knew she had to get a handle on digital strategies through her DES certification.
What are your job responsibilities?
I am responsible for training, process improvements, new account implementations, and best practices.
What prompted you to pursue DES certification?
I have an obligation to the company to understand the different types of meetings our team members are creating as well as to be able to bring forth solutions and new ideas for ways of doing meetings. I obtained my certification to better understand how to incorporate a digital events strategy with clients, as well as to just be generally familiar with what is available.
Share a recent digital event success?
I conducted a digital event—a webinar—to help my company’s employees understand the technology options and how they could incorporate those options into their roles. I partnered with an agency responsible for webinar software and was able to both demo the capabilities of that company as well as what a webinar looked like to the staff.
What are you most excited about in the digital space?
I enjoy that it can be interactive and inclusive so participants attending virtually can feel engaged and part of the action.
What do you think are the greatest opportunities for organizations in the digital space?
I think we can capitalize on trends like binge watching and on-demand content to allow users to watch things and learn things on their time. I also like that we can widen an audience beyond face-to-face and thus, widen the net, scope and message.
