PCMA Convene celebrates excellence in Best in Show 2018 issue

A former Australian jailhouse that once housed notorious criminals was among the top venue and innovations chosen by Convene magazine editors for the Best in Show 2018 issue published Aug. 1.

The Old Melbourne Gaol was selected as the Most Original Off-site Venue by the magazine. Convene editors also chose venues and innovations in 10 other categories including Savviest Social Media Campaign and Best Venue for Small Meetings. The selections also appear in the August print edition of Convene.

As part of celebrating excellence in live events, the editors reached out to business events thought leaders to ask how the industry has improved in the past few years. A recurring theme is that planners are becoming increasingly strategic in their roles — and that’s a good thing.

“We have never been more connected, which can feel scary and overwhelming, yet it’s changed the way we design our events, the way we meet and the way we engage our participants,” wrote Judi Holler, owner of Holla! Productions in Ohio.
