How the Country’s Most Forward-Thinking City Is Keeping Attendees Entertained

One of the country’s most educated cities (Forbes), the weirdest city in America (Washington Post), the most future-ready city in the U.S. (Dell) — San Jose has been called many things, but boring is never one of them. With new hotels, airlift, attractions, and technology experiences rolling out, the 10th-largest city in the country is one of the most inspiring places you can meet in right now.

Center of Tech

Most know San Jose as the center of tech. San Jose has the largest concentration of technology expertise in the world with more than 6,600 technology companies, including Adobe Systems, Cisco Systems, PayPal, and eBay. It’s also where tech likes to test out its latest and greatest ideas, like at Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport (SJC), where Google has introduced its new ‘Tango’ technology platform, an augmented reality experience that can be used for wayfinding and augmented advertising experiences.

Innovation in Action

Groups looking to make connections in the tech industry will find plenty of ways to do so in San Jose. For example, they can lunch with developers at Samsung’s public cafeteria, or visit the new Apple Campus 2, opening this spring with a visitor center, café, and store. Team San Jose has partnered with local guides to offer tech-themed local tours, which include visits to popular campuses and museums like The Tech Museum of Innovation, the Intel Museum, and the Computer History Museum.

Stay and Play

New hotels are popping up in response to visitor demand. The 210-room AC Hotel San Jose Downtown, the brand’s first property in California, opened in January with 6,470 square feet of meeting space. Hotel Clariana, an upscale boutique property with 44 rooms, is scheduled to open in downtown in early 2017. A recent increase in service to San Jose International Airport (SJC) has resulted in new nonstop routes to 10 cities, including London, Shanghai, and Vancouver.

When it’s time to tear them away from the world of tech, planners will find San Jose an active attendee’s paradise. The city is home to one of the nation’s largest urban trail networks. Mountain biking, cycling, rock climbing, and backpacking are popular activities that can be done year-round, as the destination receives 300 days of sunshine a year.
