FAQs on the CMP

CMP exam-takers inevitably have questions of their own. Here are some answers to the most common inquiries PCMA receives about the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) process.

Who administers the exam?

Prometric, an independent test developer and delivery company, administers the CMP exam at its testing sites in more than 180 countries. PCMA does not administer the exam, but we do provide study materials to help you pass it.

What kind of questions are on the exam?

There are nine domains covered by the CMP exam, and each domain is weighted differently. These International Standards are reviewed every five years by the Events Industry Council.

How are the questions formatted?

The CMP exam questions are multiple choice.

How many questions are related to formulas?

The breakdown of questions is confidential, but this webinar with Cineplex sales manager Jenny Stanfield, CMP, provides some valuable test-taking tips.

What is the pass/fail rate?

Exact pass/fail rates are not available, but know that test-takers who use the Professional Meeting Management textbook and the CIC manual are generally successful in obtaining their CMPs.

Can I expect a raise after obtaining a CMP?

A CMP does not guarantee higher pay, but according to Convene magazine’s 2019 Salary Survey, respondents with a CMP earned more than $8,600 a year on average than did colleagues without the designation.
