Trevor Sookraj | PCMA Member Spotlight

Get to know PCMA Member Trevor Sookraj, President, Crystal Events

What initially led you to becoming involved with PCMA?
I was looking to meet like-minded individuals in the events industry so we can have real conversations about our work. This means both WHAT we did in events, but also HOW we worked in events; who we show up as when we’re onsite with a client, on a virtual call with a team member, or working from home and juggling life responsibilities.

How has your career developed as a result of being a PCMA member?
I have been able to build a much more comprehensive understanding of the events industry as a PCMA member, specifically, how I can grow our events without experiencing (as much) imposter syndrome. I loved attending and speaking at PCMA’s Canadian Innovation Conference, as I got to compare notes with other planners who plan bigger events and had expertise in areas that I felt I was weaker in.

Why would you tell others it’s important to be involved in PCMA?
Regardless of the size of your organization, it can be difficult to find the resources and experience necessary to grow both your events and your own career as a professional. Getting involved with PCMA is a great way to meet other individuals who care about your growth, want to share what they’ve learned, and are equally invested in growing together as a community.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to cook and have been trying dishes that stretch my comfort zone. I recently made a gluten & dairy-free risotto for a friend and have been trying to replicate the bread pudding I had at Disney World. I’ve also been using my event planning skills in my personal life as I plan my wedding this coming year!
