What’s Going on in Miami Beach

In January, Convening Leaders heads to sunny Miami Beach just as the destination kicks into high gear. Here are several great reasons to make time for exploring while you’re in town.

Stroll the district. The Miami Beach Convention Center District in South Beach has plenty to see, do, hear, and eat, all within walking distance of the Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC). Check out the public art in the adjacent almost six-acre Pride Park or find a moment of zen in the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, also conveniently next door.

Sip, nosh, and shop. That’s what Lincoln Road was made for. This pedestrian promenade — just a quick walk away from the MBCC — has eight blocks of designer shopping, see-and-be-seen restaurants, and al fresco gathering spots that make for one of Miami’s best pastimes: people-watching.

Inspiring experiences. Pérez Art Museum Miami spans more than 200,000 square feet and features contemporary art from the 20th and 21st centuries, including an impressive collection of works by Latin American, Caribbean, and African artists. The museum is also a great jumping off point for more of downtown, including the neighboring Phillip & Patricia Frost Museum of Science and Maurice A. Ferré Park, home to the city’s longest waterfront baywalk.

Get outside. Temperatures peak in the mid-70s in January, a great reason to start or end the day with an outdoor escape. The famous Miami Beach Beachwalk, a nine-mile oceanfront promenade, is one of many pedestrian pathways ideal for a run or a stroll.

Pastel paradise. On the National Register of Historic Places, Miami Beach’s Art Deco District, which runs from 6th Street to 23rd Street in South Beach, is home to the world’s largest collection of Art Deco architecture. The Art Deco Welcome Center on Ocean Drive offers daily walking tours.

Hot hospitality scene. Greater Miami and Miami Beach have a plethora of new and newly renovated properties to scope out, including recent transformations of iconic properties like Royal Palm South Beach, Loews Miami Beach Hotel, and Delano Miami Beach. Don’t miss the 800-room Grand Hyatt Miami Beach, currently rising next door to the MBCC and set to open in late 2027.

Delectable dining. You’ll find plenty of Michelin-honored dining experiences in Miami, including 15 starred restaurants throughout Greater Miami and Miami Beach. But there’s plenty of impressive culinary talent that flies under the radar here, too. If you head to Wynwood for the district’s famous murals, stop in at Enriqueta’s Sandwich Shop for authentic Cuban coffee and sandwiches. Ghee Indian Kitchen, also in Wynwood, was one of 20 semifinalists for the 2025 James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant.
