Members of PCMA’s 20 in Their Twenties class of 2020 already have proven to be leaders, putting their own mark on the business events industry. Julia Hachenthal, marketing & events manager for GCB German Convention Bureau e.V. in Frankfurt, shares her thoughts about the industry.
What do you like most about your job?
Seeing my ideas coming to life. Having brainstormed, discussed, created, designed, prototyped, and tested new ideas for weeks and months, it’s the most satisfying feeling and a huge affirmation to observe that participants enjoy the event, and that everything works as it should. Moreover, the best part about my daily work life is to go to the office with a smile on my face because I’m looking forward to working with the best colleagues and teammates I could wish for.
What do you like most about the industry?
The business meetings industry as a cross-sectional industry is very exciting and offers a lot of inspiration. Through each new project, I am allowed to get in touch and collaborate with diverse professionals of different backgrounds and to learn from them. The meetings and events industry enables me to work on various projects with multiple project partners and therefore makes my job a very exciting, flexible, and creative one.
What’s one — or more — event trends you have your eye on?
Having just finished an amazing training for design thinking, I am really curious to see and experience how these user-centric design and innovation approaches will further influence the business meetings industry. I am convinced that the way we plan and design meetings will be completely different in a couple of years.
Additionally, I will for sure have an eye on the various technological innovations — from collaboration tools, holograms, VR/AR technologies, and artificial intelligence to tracking and data collection — that will on the one hand change and ease our daily working life, and on the other hand, influence and disrupt the way we meet.
