How AWEA Reinvented Its 2016 Annual Meeting


Success does not mean perfection. That’s one takeaway from a conversation between Convening Leaders Live host Amanda Marijanovic and Stephanie Brown, vice president of education and conferences for the American Wind Energy Association, at Convening Leaders 2017 in Austin, Texas.

In the interview, Brown talked about how AWEA integrated education and exhibitions for the organization’s 2016 meeting. “We really wanted to create more of a unified experience on the show floor,” which has more than 400 exhibitors, Brown said. To do it, she and her team created “education theaters” right on the floor — they were so successful, AWEA plans to repeat them next year.  The new initiative was not without surprises, however.  Although Brown and her team carefully planned for “sound bleed” from the education theaters, they encountered an unexpected wrinkle.
