A History of Great Taste
Ever since German immigrants—craving a taste of home—began importing beer here in the 1800s, it has come to define Milwaukee’s character. Visitors can savor the area’s beer history all around the city: On a tour of Miller Brewery, a walk through the historic Pabst Mansion or a beer history tour at Best Place at the original Pabst Brewery, a downtown architectural gem with historic halls available for rent. If your event is in September, make sure your attendees don’t miss the German food, music and, of course, beer at Oktoberfest.
Tour the Best Brews
When looking for the best breweries, taprooms and beer attractions in town, point your group to the Brew City Beer Map, a self-directed journey to Milwaukee beer utopia. Beer tours by bus (such as the Craft Breweries & Cocktails Tour with Milwaukee Food & City Tours) are also a popular way to sip and see, as is the Milwaukee Pedal Tavern, a group bicycle-powered bar that can be rented out for private groups of up to 96 (six bikes that ride 16 people each). No matter how you get there, make sure to visit the Bavarian Bierhaus (German beer hall, restaurant, beer garden and brewery), Lakefront Brewery (serving up craft beer and hilarious brewery tours) and Sprecher Brewery (Milwaukee’s original craft microbrewery serving European-style beers and famous gourmet sodas).
Not a Beer Fan?
Milwaukee drinking culture doesn’t have to stop at breweries. There are plenty of tasty libations around the city: Bloody Marys at Blues Egg Café, crisp Rosé at wine bar Balzac or craft cocktails mixed with house-made, botanical-infused bitters at Bittercube, a unique cocktail destination in Milwaukee’s Uptown Crossing neighborhood.
