What makes Anaheim unique? Yes, it’s home to Disneyland, but there’s more to the sunny, SoCal city than Mickey Mouse and Company. For example, the recently expanded Anaheim Convention Center, which not only boasts 1 million square feet of exhibit space, but connects three (and soon to be four) hotels, on the Anaheim Campus.
Welcome to the Campus
That sounds convenient — and it is — but it’s much more than that. Think California sunshine, leisurely strolls filled with encounters with art and food, and plenty of palm trees overhead.
From the rotating public art to the food-truck friendly Grand Plaza, the campus is a place where people can connect in person, as they make their way to one of three hotels or the Anaheim Convention Center, or online by way of the free Wi-Fi available throughout the outdoor space.
While I was visiting the campus on a recent fam trip, I spent some time at “Wings of the City,” a public art exhibit. Moody yet beautiful winged sculptures dot the path along the campus’ contemplative garden walk — the nine sculptures were created by Mexican artist Jorge Marin. They provide perfect selfie backdrops — especially the pièce de résistance, the namesake sculpture, “Wings of the City,” a giant pair of wings that visitors could pose in-between and become a sort of extraordinary bird, or superhero, themselves.
And being a part of it all, whether it’s slowing down and interacting with the public art, or maybe even stopping between destinations for a taco or two at the Grand Plaza, is what makes the Anaheim Campus truly unique. It’s easy to briskly walk from place to place, but even more pleasant to slow down, and soak it all in.
Four’s Company in Anaheim
The Hilton Anaheim, the Anaheim Marriott, and the Sheraton Park Hotel & Resort are all within a stone’s throw of the Anaheim Convention Center. They’ll soon be joined by a fourth — the Westin Anaheim Resort, which is expected to open in 2020, and the closest in proximity to the new ACC North Building — the most recent addition to the convention center, which opened September 26th.
