Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has become more than just a passing trend in the events industry. It’s now ingrained in the way organizers plan events. Most companies are now considering their impact — from their carbon footprint to their lasting contributions to society. It’s important to attendees, too. According to a 2017 Cone Communications CSR Study, 87 percent of consumers reported supporting a company because it aligned with an issue they cared about.
When hosting an event at the 800-room Rosen Plaza, event organizers can trust that they’re supporting a company that’s committed to good causes. The Harris Rosen Foundation — founded by Harris Rosen, the owner of Rosen Plaza and seven other Rosen Hotels & Resorts properties — recently gifted $12 million to the University of Florida (UF) and UF Health to be used for brain tumor research and treatment.
Rosen was inspired to make the donation after his son, Adam, received care at UF’s Brain Tumor Center before passing away in November 2018 from cancer. The hotelier was touched by how committed and professional the UF clinical team was, and how comfortable they were able to make him and his family.
“The gift to UF Health represents the Rosen commitment to our neighbors and community,” said Victoria Hall, director of sales and marketing at Rosen Hotels & Resorts. “We appreciate the work of UF Health on behalf of the Rosen family and our larger family of customers and neighbors.”
In addition to giving planners the opportunity to contribute to the community, Rosen Plaza also just completed some decor improvements, including new carpeting in its 26,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom and a complete renovation of the hotel’s lobby and business center. The property, which is conveniently connected to the 2.1-million-square-foot Orange County Convention Center, offers 60,000 total square feet of event space, which was also recently upgraded. But the property’s focus remains, first and foremost, on giving back.
