Freeman Audio Visual Canada has announced that Heidi Welker, senior vice president, business development and industry partnerships, has been elected as the 2018 Chair for Meetings Mean Business Canada (MMBC). Welker brings years of leadership experience to MMBC. She has served as president for the PCMA Canada East Chapter and is on the PCMA Education Foundation Board of Trustees.
VISIT DENVER, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, has named Cahal Mowery as its new director of convention sales. Mowery joins the team from JW Marriott Houston Downtown, where he was director of sales and catering. Mowery will lead the mid-market and Executive Meeting Managers sales efforts. In his new role, Mowery will also be responsible for supporting tactical initiatives to fulfill the sales department’s goals.
Visit Seattle has announced the promotion of Kelly Saling to vice president, convention sales. Saling joined the sales team at Visit Seattle in 2009 and became the director of sales beginning in 2014. In her new role, which she started earlier this year, Saling provides strategic direction and leadership for the Visit Seattle convention sales team. She is also responsible for developing long- and short-term marketing and sales strategies.
Jason Koteff has been appointed as national sales manager for Visit Charlotte, the destination sales team for the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority. Koteff, who will be based in Washington, D.C., has an extensive background in hospitality. He previously served as Team San Jose’s director of national accounts for the Mid-Atlantic region, marketing San Jose, California, and its convention center to large groups and organizations. He has also worked for Ottawa Tourism, Visit Baltimore, Tourism Toronto, and the Kansas City Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Tradeshow Logic, an event solutions firm, has named Chris Gowe vice president of strategic growth. In this newly created role, Gowe will lead Tradeshow Logic’s exhibit and sponsorship sales team. Gowe most recently served as director of sales at the Vancouver Convention Centre. He has also worked for dmg world media and George Little Management.
Leah Sulony has been appointed as event manager at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Sulony previously worked as event services manager for Hilton Worldwide and as operations manager for Hosts New Orleans. In her new role, Sulony will be responsible for managing all aspects of the event planning process, serving as a liaison between the convention center and clients.
The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center has also hired Lauren Castine as its new event manager. In this role, Castine will help guide clients through event preparation and show set-up, monitor in-house events, and oversee all related activities. Castine previously worked as director of meetings and events for the American Institute of Architecture Students.
Viceroy Hotel Group has named Aaron Feeney its new San Francisco area director of sales and marketing. In this position, Feeney will spearhead the development and execution of strategic sales and marketing initiatives for three boutique hotels in San Francisco — Hotel Zelos, Hotel Zetta, and Hotel Zeppelin. Feeney brings more than a decade of experience his new role. Most recently, he was director of sales, marketing, and events at Andaz Napa for five years.
Christine Mueller has joined the Visit Bainbridge team as director of visitor development — a partnership between the Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce and the Bainbridge Island Downtown Association. She previously served as vice president of sales for Visit Seattle. In her new role, Mueller will focus on inviting visitors and locals to the Washington island during off-peak months.
