Kirsten Olean, CAE, who serves as secretary-treasurer on the PCMA Board of Directors, has been named director of meetings for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She will be leaving the American Society for Microbiology, where she has been director of meetings for nearly five years, on July 30, and will assume her new role in mid-August.

“I’m really excited for a new challenge,” Olean told Convene, “and the chance to do what I love in support of an incredible mission.” Olean added that the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is very supportive of her voluntary service to PCMA and one of the reasons the foundation pursued her for the position, she said, is her engagement in the business events industry.

While at the American Society for Microbiology, Olean spearheaded the combination of two major events — the society’s General Meeting and Interscience Conference on Antimicrobrial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC) into one new annual conference, ASM Microbe, in 2016. She shared her three major takeaways from that initiative with Convene when the new event launched.
