Members of PCMA’s 20 in Their Twenties class of 2019 see a bright future for the business events industry, a future to which they plan to contribute. Kevin Thompson shares his impressions of and expectations for the industry.
What do you like most about your job?
I love the opportunities my job affords me to collaborate with various professionals who are dedicated and share the same common mission of bringing the client’s vision to life. Each event presents new challenges and opportunities, and I enjoy making an impact in our world through managing incredible events.
Where would you like your career to go?
I’m currently pursuing my master’s degree in sports management at Georgetown University and gaining knowledge and significant interest in this realm. I foresee combining my event management experience with my love of professional sports.
What’s the best day you’ve had in the meetings industry so far?
When I received the call from PCMA informing me that I was selected for 20 in Their Twenties was the best day so far. It provided me with the professional confirmation that all my hard work and dedication to this industry has been recognized nationally.
What will be the biggest change in the industry over the next 20 years?
One of the biggest changes in our industry will be an overall communication shift. Everything will be less personal and more digital. From a sales perspective, how we communicate is typically in-person with a traditional site visit and walk-through of the facility. Twenty years from now that process will change significantly, with virtual-reality tours similar to the new roll-out from Events DC. In addition, there will be less physical signage and an increased digital focus as it pertains to event information content.
