With 1.3 million square feet of space, Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre can host large-scale events of up to 45,000 attendees.

Earlier this year, Singapore became a focal point for the global business events community when two back-to-back industry events brought leaders together to examine what’s next: PCMA Convening APAC, held April 12–14, and The Meetings Show Asia Pacific, held April 14–15.

Hosted at Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre, both events offered a lens into the evolution of the MICE industry, specifically how technology and human connection must work in concert to deliver meaningful outcomes. Under the theme “Signal: Mastering Change,” PCMA Convening APAC brought together senior business event leaders and next-gen event professionals for discussions on trends and priorities shaping the industry, from adopting AI to enhance events without eroding quality to unpacking what human-centered leadership means.

Keynotes and sessions explored themes like workforce transformation, wellness, and sustainability, and how they help events create long-term value. Attendees emerged with a new mindset: purpose, rather than format, must drive event design and how to measure outcomes for experiences.

During a panel discussion at The Meetings Show APAC on next-gen talent, Assistant Manager of MICE Sales at Marina Bay Sands Chiam Jia Ying shared that “Younger professionals want to understand the why, not just the work.”

Strategy and Business Converge

If Convening APAC sharpened eventgoers’ strategic clarity, The Meetings Show Asia Pacific demonstrated how to translate those insights into tangible business outcomes. The 2026 edition brought together nearly 2,000 meetings and travel professionals, including more than 600 buyers from more than 80 countries, with thousands of pre-arranged business meetings taking place over two days.

Beyond scale, the defining characteristic of The Meetings Show Asia Pacific was the depth of engagement. Curated buyer programs facilitated more targeted connections while co-located platforms encouraged cross-sector exchange, broadening opportunities across the wider travel, business events, and hospitality ecosystem. These interactions reaffirm that digital formats cannot replicate the power of face-to-face engagement when it comes to building trust, deepening relationships, and laying the foundation for long-term partnerships.

Both PCMA Convening APAC and The Meetings Show APAC also showcased a growing emphasis on designing for human experience, and how emotional intelligence and sensory engagement can inspire event design. Take, for example, sustainability, which has evolved into a baseline expectation for event operations and design. Using herbs grown in Marina Bay Sands’ modular hydroponic systems, an on-site tea bar at both events offered attendees a chance to make their own personalized tea blends. This demonstrates how sustainability can be part of the event experience in ways that are interactive and memorable.

A Defining Moment

Both industry events signal a defining moment for the meetings industry in Asia Pacific. Through strong participation, meaningful engagement, and a willingness to innovate, the region is not only demonstrating resilience but actively shaping the future of the global business events industry. As the industry continues to evolve, the ability to interpret the right signals, design with intention, and deliver with precision will define what comes next.
