NYC Tourism + Conventions has appointed Fred Dixon as president and CEO, marking a return to the organization he previously led for a decade. Dixon will begin the role Dec. 1 after concluding his tenure as president and CEO of Brand USA, where he has overseen efforts to promote international travel to the United States for more than two years.
Dixon led NYC Tourism + Conventions from 2014 to 2024 before joining Brand USA. His experience spans destination marketing, tourism promotion and industry partnerships at both the city and national levels.
“Returning to lead NYC Tourism + Conventions is an extraordinary honor and responsibility,” said Dixon. “My time at Brand USA gave me a broader perspective on the global travel marketplace and what’s required to be competitive for international travelers. I return to New York with that experience, along with a renewed appreciation for the strength of this city and the extraordinary people and businesses that make its visitor economy so vital. I look forward to working with our members, partners and city leadership to grow visitation, strengthen our global position and ensure tourism continues to deliver for all five boroughs.”
As president and CEO, Dixon will lead efforts to promote New York City to leisure travelers, meeting planners and event organizers while strengthening relationships across the city’s tourism and hospitality community.
“Fred Dixon has the rare combination of foundational New York City expertise, national leadership experience and global perspective that this moment requires,” said Charles Flateman, board chairman, NYC Tourism + Conventions. “The Board conducted a thoughtful process to identify the leader best positioned to advance our mission, and Fred’s proven ability to elevate New York City’s global brand, build partnerships across the industry and understand the forces shaping international travel made him the right choice to lead NYC Tourism + Conventions into the future.”
Board Chairman Charles Flateman and the executive leadership team will manage the organization’s day-to-day leadership responsibilities until Dixon takes office in December.
Tourism plays a significant role in New York City’s economy. The organization reports that visitors spent $55.6 billion in the city last year, helping support 400,000 jobs and more than $7 billion in tax revenue across the five boroughs.
Brand USA said Dixon will remain with the organization through Nov. 13. The organization’s board has begun planning a search for his successor.
