Daniel Chua Gets Back to Basics

As founder and CEO of Singapore-based event agency AONIA, Daniel Chua believes hotels need to focus on “upskilling” staff in order to provide more holistic service. Often, he says, hoteliers can become preoccupied with hardware, such as refurbishments and tech upgrades, and neglect what he calls the “software,” — soft skills or people skills.

“Remember to focus on the basics of hospitality,” Chua advised, which include “tact, courtesy, warmth, empathy, and anticipation. These skills are non-physical, but essential attributes to the hotel experience.”
