Culture Vulture in Macau

Suntec Singapore’s Arun Madhok has an appetite for China’s south coast.

As CEO of the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre, Arun Madhok travels extensively throughout APAC for conferences and meetings, while taking the odd trip farther afield to Europe and the Middle East.

But his favourite new hot spot is a Special Administrative Region of China nestled within the Pearl River Delta.

While giant casinos and malls along Macau’s Cotai Strip have spurred economic growth (and led to nicknames like ‘the Las Vegas of Asia’), Madhok says the former Portuguese colony is full of culinary gems that reference its long history as a cultural melting pot.

“I love to try the local delicacies,” he said. “Macanese cuisine is really unique as it blends Chinese and Portuguese traditions. The pork chop bun and egg tarts, in particular, should not be missed.”
