Beyond the Attraction: The Infrastructure Behind Anaheim’s Meetings Appeal

Attendees make their way through the Anaheim Convention Center, the largest convention center on the West Coast.

Anaheim may be synonymous with Disneyland Resort, but for meeting planners, the destination’s appeal extends far beyond its most famous attraction.

That’s the premise behind Visit Anaheim’s new white paper, Attraction Distraction?, which challenges the notion that major attractions compete for attendees’ attention.

Instead, it argues that destinations built to welcome millions of visitors offer planners an advantage: mature transportation networks, substantial hotel capacity, sophisticated safety infrastructure, and experienced hospitality partners.

Anaheim makes a compelling case. At its center is the LEED-certified Anaheim Convention Center, the largest convention center on the West Coast with 1.8 million square feet of space.

More than 23,000 hotel rooms are located within two miles, while four major convention hotels—the Westin Anaheim Resort, Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort, Hilton Anaheim and Anaheim Marriott—help create a highly walkable convention campus.

Getting there is equally flexible, with four nearby airports—John Wayne Airport (SNA), Long Beach Airport (LGB), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and Ontario International Airport (ONT)—providing extensive air access.

That infrastructure supports more than 140 meetings and conventions annually and has helped Anaheim earn recognition as No. 3 among TSNN’s Top 10 Trade Show Destinations.

The destination is also investing in what comes next. Multi-billion-dollar developments, including OCVIBE‘s 100-acre mixed-use district and DisneylandForward, are poised to add new entertainment, dining, and experiential possibilities for groups.

Through it all, Visit Anaheim serves as an extension of planners’ teams, providing site selection, hotel sourcing, venue recommendations, promotional support, and on-the-ground coordination.

The takeaway? In Anaheim, the attractions aren’t a distraction. They’re part of an established meetings ecosystem designed to move, host, and engage people at scale.
