Get to know PCMA Member Tamsyn Barker, Managing Director, APAC FIRST Agency
1. What initially led you to becoming involved with PCMA?
I was driven by a strong desire to feel more deeply connected to our industry as a whole, whether that meant building relationships with suppliers, competitors, or other peers. In this line of work, we don’t always get regular opportunities to network with fellow industry leaders, and I recognized PCMA as the perfect platform to bridge that gap.
Beyond my own professional growth, I wanted a space where we could share our unique stories, discuss shared challenges, and find inspiration through collective learning and conversation. Ultimately, joining wasn’t just a decision for myself; I wanted to open doors for my team at FIRST, giving them the same opportunity to be influenced, inspired, and motivated by this incredible community.
2. How has your career developed as a result of being a PCMA member?
Being a PCMA member has been a catalyst for both my personal leadership development and our agency’s growth. As a leader, it’s easy to get caught in a bubble, but PCMA provides a reassuring reminder that we are all navigating the same industry shifts together. These peer interactions have sharpened my industry insights, helping me bring innovative ideas back to my team.
Having the privilege of serving as an APAC Advisory Board member has given me an even deeper appreciation for the organization. Being able to actively contribute to the strategy and engagement of PCMA within the region has been incredibly fulfilling. Ultimately, this journey has been a win-win: it has pushed my personal professional boundaries, allowed me to support the growth of PCMA, while increasing the market visibility and reputation of FIRST within the industry.
3. Why would you tell others it is important to be involved in PCMA?
I always tell people that involvement in PCMA is a powerful catalyst for both personal and professional growth. It offers an unparalleled environment to consciously build and expand your professional network, while simultaneously allowing you to embrace the educational opportunities on offer. If you want to stay ahead of industry trends and surround yourself with a supportive community, it’s the place to be.
4. What do you like to do in your free time?
Outside of work, I am a busy mother of two teenage girls who keep me on my toes with their very different passions—one is a dedicated dancer and the other is a passionate equestrian! I share my daughter’s love for horses and jump at any opportunity I can get to go riding. When I’m not working or supporting my daughters, I love dining out with my husband or immersing myself in the arts, by attending live theatre.
