An Inclusion Expedition – A Guided Zoo Experience Into Conflict Management for Sustainable Inclusivity

August 14, 2025 @ 7:30 am11:30 am MDT

Start your day off with an escape from the mundane and discover the wild right in our own backyard. RMPCMA welcomes you in partnership with the Denver Zoo and the PCMA Foundation to come and experience the zoo in a new light. Devour the delicious breakfast bites from the zoo’s wildly creative culinary team while we tame tensions in an interactive conversation with Sherron Washington who’s going to guide us on a journey in managing conflict to create an environment for sustainable inclusivity. After we’ve absorbed all that knowledge, we’ll be joined by some animal ambassadors for a meet-and-greet with some of the zoo’s residences to understand these creatures as well as their mission for continued sustainability. Finally, make connections with friends and colleagues alike while immersing yourself in the unique neighborhoods across the zoo’s expansive complex on your own time. This is sure to be an exciting morning full of exploration and learning that will leave you yearning for your next great adventure!

Taming the Tension: Managing Conflict to Create Sustainable Inclusivity

This 50-minute session invites event professionals to reframe how they view and respond to conflict—not as disruption, but as an opportunity for growth, clarity, and long-term inclusivity. In an industry where pressure is constant and perspectives vary, conflict is inevitable. But it is  managed determines whether it divides or deepens connection. Through practical strategies, communication tools, and real-world examples, participants will learn how to navigate tension with intention and build environments that foster respect, openness, and sustainability—no matter the setting.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize how miscommunication, bias, and perception impact conflict in diverse event environments.
  • Apply conflict response techniques tailored for in-person, written, and virtual interactions.
  • Practice inclusive language and listening skills that diffuse tension and build understanding.
  • Develop communication habits that contribute to long-term, sustainable cultural inclusion.
