Nearly every news site or social- media feed has a section on the trending stories generating the most real-time chatter. PCMA is taking a cue from the style of those conversations at PCMA Convening Leaders 2020. The program, which takes place at San Francisco’s Moscone Center from Jan. 5-8, will feature a dedicated Trending Now track/studio to educate business events leaders on the latest topics that will transform the industry.

“PCMA is committed to highlighting important, in-the-moment forces of change that are gaining traction,” said Carrie Johnson, DES, PCMA’s senior director, education, “and impacting all facets of the business event industry.”

These “forces of change” include everything from the latest technology to issues around diversity and inclusion at events and in the workplace to combating human trafficking. Here’s more about what’s planned for the Trending Now studio:

Welcoming Diverse Travelers with More Inclusive Events

Monday, Jan. 6, 11:15 a.m.

Despite efforts to make all attendees feel at home, there are persistent challenges to making sure that members of the LGBTQ+ community feel included at meetings and events. ManAboutWorld’s editor in chief, Ed Salvato, and founder, Billy Kolber, have consulted with a range of venues and destinations on best practices, including gender-neutral language and bathroom policies.

Human Trafficking: Closer Than You Think

Monday, Jan. 6, 3:30 p.m.

Each day, the Human Trafficking Hotline receives an average of 150 calls with reports of victims. Theresa Flores, author of The Slave Across the Street, was one of those victims. She will share her story and show the business events community how it can play a role in the effort to end human trafficking.

This Is Your Event. This Is Your Event on 5G.

Tuesday, Jan. 7, 11 a.m.

The world is nearing a new era of connectivity — one that will feature wireless speeds that are 100 times faster than today’s broadband environment. Get a glimpse of how the dawn of 5G will usher in new opportunities for engagement with face-to-face and remote attendees.

Navigating Your Diverse Workplace

Wednesday, Jan. 8, 9 a.m.

As workplaces welcome members from multiple generations who have different socio-economic backgrounds, leaders must reexamine traditional approaches to communication, training, and recruitment. Alissa Carpenter, owner of Everything’s Not OK and That’s OK, will share tips on how to help your diverse team thrive together.
