Sacramento’s Downtown Renaissance

A Sponsored Message from Visit Sacramento

No longer just a sleepy town east of San Francisco, California’s capital is primed to become America’s next great city.

There is a transformation happening in Sacramento. With the opening of Golden 1 Center, an expansion of the Sacramento Convention Center, the new Downtown Commons, and hundreds of restaurants and breweries that can be easily explored on foot, Sacramento has plenty to offer your attendees. Here’s where to meet, eat and play in California’s revitalized capital city.

A Brand-New Sacramento Convention Center

One of the biggest changes currently underway is the Sacramento Convention Center’s multi-million-dollar renovation and expansion, expected to be complete in 2020. The downtown landmark is getting a brand-new 40,000-square-foot ballroom, a 15,000-square-foot outdoor activities plaza and 37 breakout spaces, offering a new level of versatility that planners (and attendees) will love. The nearby Memorial Auditorium as well as the Community Center Theater will also be getting a new look.

Dining on the Grid

As America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital, Sacramento’s culinary scene is filled with fine-dining restaurants, casual eateries and farm-fresh menus. Downtown—also known as the Grid—is not only home to some of the city’s best restaurants, it’s also wonderfully walkable and easy to navigate. Your attendees can stroll from the convention center or their hotel to K Street or the new Downtown Commons in mere minutes and have their pick of local hotspots. They’ll also find a crop of new breweries such as Ruhstaller Beer and Bike Dog Broadway Taproom, both perfect for grabbing a post-meeting pint with colleagues.

Downtown Commons

Surrounding the new Golden 1 Center (home to the NBA’s Sacramento Kings) and just six blocks from the convention center, your attendees will find plenty of shopping, dining and public art to enjoy in what the locals call “DOCO.” Plan a networking event at Punch Bowl Social or a group outing to Sauced BBQ & Spirits for Southern comfort and live music. Want to give your attendees an exclusive DOCO experience? The brand-new boutique Kimpton Sawyer Hotel puts them in the middle of it all.

Let Visit Sacramento help bring your next event to life in California’s vibrant capital city.
