Members of PCMA’s 20 in Their Twenties class of 2019 see a bright future for the business events industry, a future to which they plan to contribute. Lindsay Williams shares her impressions of and expectations for the industry.
What do you like most about your job?
No day is ever the same in my job, and I love that. Each client and each show is unique, which means I never get tired of what I am working on. More than that, I love the people that I get to work with. Having a great team makes all the difference.
Where would you like your career to go?
I would love to some day become part of senior leadership, both within GES and taking on a volunteer role with PCMA. I would like the opportunity to be part of the bigger picture to support our ever-changing and evolving business events industry.
What’s the best day you’ve had in the meetings industry so far?
Well No. 1 by far was hearing that I had been selected as one of the 2019 class of 20 in their Twenties! Other than this, GES is a publicly traded company under VIAD. We had a client presentation this past year at the New York Stock Exchange. It was an amazing experience presenting to our client, but also sharing in such a unique experience with them.
What will be the biggest change in the industry over the next 20 years?
The biggest change in the industry will be how we manage rapidly evolving technology, and its impact on our industry. Face-to-face communication happens less and less because of Skype, driverless vehicles, facial recognition for check in, etc., which will make human interaction at events that much more crucial to an attendee’s success and for the creation of individuality at events. Technology also will make human interaction at events that much more meaningful to an attendee’s positive outcome and for the creation of individuality at events.
