SUMMARY:Webinar: Understanding Your Event Audience
DESCRIPTION:What does your event audience care about the most? And how are you delivering that? This critical question can be the difference between failure and success this year\, as audiences are choosing which events they travel to very selectively. Do you have the data you need to define your audience correctly? \nJoin event strategist and data expert\, Vinnu Deshetty\, and marketing strategist and audience engagement expert\, Sourabh Kothari\, as they explain how your audience is being redefined in 2023. Bring your toughest questions\, so we can all understand our event audiences better. \n\n \n \n\n\n \n \n\n \n \n [vc_btn title=”REGISTER NOW” style=”gradient-custom” gradient_custom_color_1=”#e0295d” gradient_custom_color_2=”#54a0df” shape=”round” size=”lg” align=”center” i_align=”right” i_icon_fontawesome=”fas fa-chevron-right” add_icon=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fpcma.zoom.us%2Fwebinar%2Fregister%2FWN_h6e3k6UQRICSbGg8tewS7A|target:_blank” el_class=”reg-btn”] \n \n\n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n Speaker: Vinnu Deshetty\nCEO of EVA Tech Hub and PCMA ELI Course Instructor \nAs Founder and CEO\, Vinnu Deshetty brings over 20 years of experience working with conferences\, meetings\, and events. As a meeting planner\, she understands the hurdles her industry peers encounter on a daily basis. As a techie\, Vinnu knows that there are tools and tricks of the trade to help organizations overcome the unknowns of what will happen next. Vinnu loves learning what peers in the industry have to share and share what she’s learned along this journey we call digital transformation. In an environment where technology is quickly changing\, and the nature of meetings is evolving\, Vinnu leads EVA’s team of meeting planners and developers that takes the guesswork out of meeting planning. “Armed with data that EVA collects\, we no longer have to rely on our gut to make strategic decisions about our events. Listen to the data. It’s trying to tell you something.” Raised as a coal miner’s daughter in western Kentucky\, Vinnu learned the value of hard work and community. Experiencing how a community rallies together in good times and bad\, she knows that the meetings industry will champion again. Vinnu obtained a Bachelor of Science from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Public Administration. She now works and resides in the Washington\, DC area with her fierce feminist daughters and her sidekick Toby the wonder dog. \n\n \n \n\n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n Speaker: Sourabh Kothari\nCEO of Mindcurrent and PCMA ELI Course Instructor \nFor over 20 years\, Sourabh Kothari has been building high performing teams and award-winning products for the world’s largest brands. Over the pandemic\, Sourabh had the unique opportunity to train over 3\,000 event professionals globally on digital engagement for in-person\, hybrid\, and virtual events via PCMA’s Digital Event Strategist certification course. His venture\, Mindcurrent\, uses data science and performance psychology to analyze team performance and wellbeing\, with expert insights delivered directly via Slack and Teams based on each team’s unique culture and stress factors. Before co-founding Mindcurrent\, Sourabh worked at two B2B SaaS startups\, one of which is now a unicorn\, and the other recently went public on the New York Stock Exchange. \n\n \n \n\n\n \n \n\n \n \n [vc_btn title=”REGISTER NOW” style=”gradient-custom” gradient_custom_color_1=”#e0295d” gradient_custom_color_2=”#54a0df” shape=”round” size=”lg” align=”center” i_align=”right” i_icon_fontawesome=”fas fa-chevron-right” add_icon=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fpcma.zoom.us%2Fwebinar%2Fregister%2FWN_h6e3k6UQRICSbGg8tewS7A|target:_blank” el_class=”reg-btn”]

SUMMARY:POWER Chapter to host inaugural PCMA U Regional Event
DESCRIPTION:The PCMA POWER Chapter is excited to announce that it will host the inaugural PCMA U Regional event in Cleveland on April 26. The POWER Chapter\, in consultation with PCMA headquarters\, and in partnership with the Hilton Cleveland Downtown\, will host the event for students from Mercyhurst University (Erie\, Pa.) and Kent State University (Kent\, Ohio)\, as part of its new Emerging Leaders program\, launched earlier this year. \n  \nPCMA University\, or PCMA U\, is the premier pre-conference event for students and emerging leaders at PCMA’S annual flagship event\, Convening Leaders. PCMA U programming offers students the opportunity to learn\, network\, and collaborate with other young professionals and emerging student leaders in the business events industry. This inaugural regional event\, as part of the POWER Chapter’s new Emerging Leaders program\, will achieve two of the program’s stated goals: hosting events with relevant content to students and young professionals\, and connecting the chapter’s emerging leaders with experienced industry members. Students will hear from industry leaders in a moderated panel session; they will have the opportunity to network with industry mentors; and get a behind-the-scenes look at hotel and convention center operations. \n  \nThank you to our sponsor\, the Hilton Cleveland Downtown\, for helping make this event happen!

SUMMARY:Midday Break
DESCRIPTION:Midday Break: Read and React: “What is my calling? An exploratory mixed-methods approach to conceptualizing hospitality career calling”\nMany are feeling the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the events industry workforce. Organizations and venues alike are struggling to hire back employees\, recruit new staff\, and retain existing staff. Join this PCMA PHL Midday Break to discuss an academic article that studied “calling dimensions” as they relate to advancing the hospitality workforce. According to the article\, “Calling has historically been defined as a sense of destiny or prosocial obligation (Duffy et al.\, 2018); however\, calling has more recently been understood as a sense of fulfillment or happiness\, emphasizing the current workforces’ focus on meaningful careers (Duffy et al.\, 2018). Calling has been found to enhance academic satisfaction (Duffy et al.\, 2011)\, life satisfaction (Duffy et al.\, 2017)\, vocational identity (Galles and Lenz\, 2013; Hirschi and Herrmann\, 2012) and well-being (Marsh and Dik\, 2020). More importantly\, previous studies found a sense of calling positively influences critical job-related attitudes and behavior such as career commitment\, job satisfaction and turnover (Chen et al.\, 2018; Duffy et al.\, 2012).” Join us for this session to discuss this study in more detail and what insights might be gleaned for solving current staffing challenges. \nThis article was written by: Lindsey Lee\, School of Sport\, Tourism and Hospitality Management\, Temple University; Sandra Sun-Ah Ponting\, L. Robert Payne School of Hospitality and Tourism Management\, San Diego State University; Ankita Ghosh\, William F. Harrah College of Hospitality\, University of Nevada Las Vegas; Hyounae (Kelly) Min\, The Collins College of Hospitality Management\, California State Polytechnic\, University Pomona. Dr. Lee will join us as the session facilitator. \nClick here to view the article. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nLearn about “calling identities” as they relate to advancing the hospitality workforce\nDiscuss current challenges in staffing in event management\nConsider possible solutions\, including “calling identities\,” for solving staffing challenges\n\n \nDr. Lindsey Lee will participate in this discussion. She is an assistant professor at Temple University’s School of Sport\, Tourism\, and Hospitality Management and focuses on maximizing service performance while supporting employee wellbeing. Dr. Lee’s research interests include identifying management and organizational practices to support employees\, implementing emotional labor to manage difficult guests\, and employee management training and development. \nThe PCMA Greater Philadelphia Chapter has been approved by the Events Industry Council (EIC) as a Preferred Provider of this continuing education course\, which qualifies for CMP continuing education credit. Determination of continuing education credit eligibility or Preferred Provider status does not imply EIC’s endorsement or assessment of education quality. \nRegistration Information: Please consider making a donation towards registration for this meeting. Registration fees are a key source of revenue for the chapter. There is a $1.00 minimum. Any amount is appreciated. A Zoom link will be emailed to registered attendees prior to the midday break.
