SUMMARY:Chapter ByLaws Vote
DESCRIPTION:Southeast Chapter Members – your VOTE is needed on proposed changes to our chapter bylaws \n  \nDuring the recent PCMA Southeast Chapter Summer Strategic Board Planning Session\, the board agreed that the current three-year term for a board director is too long of a commitment and deters volunteers from applying to serve on the board. The board also agreed that a one-year term is too short for the role of Secretary/Treasurer. \nPlease see bold areas in red below of the current bylaws versus the proposed changes\, you can also click on the link to see the full chapter bylaws: \n  \nCurrent Bylaws   \nSection 3. TENURE OF OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS. (a) Officers and Directors shall assume office at the beginning of each calendar year. The term of office for the officers shall be one year. The Secretary-Treasurer may be re-elected to serve a maximum of two (2) consecutive terms. The Immediate Past President shall serve until his or her successor rotates into office. Each of the six (6) elected directors shall serve staggered terms of three (3) years or until their successors are duly elected and qualified; they shall not serve more than two (2) consecutive terms. (b) The period of time an officer or director is required to serve\, to complete an unexpired term of another officer or director\, shall not be included in the calculation of the term limitations set forth in these Bylaws. (c) Officers and directors shall serve without compensation\, although the Board may in its sole discretion\, reimburse officers and directors for reasonable expenses incurred in the performance of their duties associated with their office. Such reimbursements to be made only upon submission of proper documentation\, including receipts for such expenses. \n  \nSuggested change to Bylaws: \nSection 3. TENURE OF OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS. (a) Officers and Directors shall assume office at the beginning of each calendar year. The term of office for the officers shall be one year except the Secretary-Treasurer will be two years. The Secretary-Treasurer may be re-elected to serve a maximum of two (2) consecutive terms. The Immediate Past President shall serve until his or her successor rotates into office. Each of the six (6) elected directors shall serve staggered terms of two (2) years or until their successors are duly elected and qualified; they shall not serve more than two (2) consecutive terms. \n  \nYour vote is requested on the above changes. The vote will remain open for 30 days\, 20% of the chapter membership is needed to vote. \n  \n

SUMMARY:August Spark: State of the Industry
DESCRIPTION:State of the Industry: Past\, Present\, and Future\nAugust Spark\nAugust 22\, 2023 | 1:30 – 6:30 p.m.\nAlexandrian Old Town \nJoin us for the PCMA Capital Chapter August Spark as we guide you through the current State of the Industry: Past\, Present\, and Future. \n\nPast: We turned quickly to virtual events during the Pandemic\, and as we returned to in-person\, we began offering hybrid. Let’s discuss what hybrid meant to you in the past\, what we’re doing now\, and best practices for the future.\nPresent: Today’s Political Climate is complex. Beth Surmont of 360 Live Media will guide the conversation on how legislation affects the events industry in “Decision made. Conference relocated or remained. Now what?” where she’ll speak with planners from organizations that have navigated both situations and their next action steps.\nFuture: We’ll close out our event with a facilitated session on what keeps you awake at night. As we head into the last half of 2023\, join your colleagues to discuss issues they are facing now\, share resources\, and gain insight into what worked (and what didn’t) for others.\n\nLocation:\nThe Alexandrian\n480 King St\, Alexandria\, VA 22314 \nDate:\nTuesday\, August 22\, 2023\n1:00 PM – 5:00 PM\, Networking Reception to follow \nRegistration Fees:\nPlanner Members: $30.00\nSupplier Members: $40.00\nPlanner Non-Members: $45\nSupplier Non-Members: $55\nStudent: $10.00 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAgenda: \n1:30 PM – 5:00 PM – Registration/Information Open \n\n2:00 PM – Welcome \n\n2:15 PM – 3:00 PM – What’s Next? Lessons Learned from 3 Years of Hybrid\nOver the past three years associations have tested various digital delivery methods for conference content: virtual\, hybrid\, synchronous\, asynchronous\, live\, and pre-recorded. This period of pivoting (yes we used the “p” word) has resulted in an ever-growing body of knowledge in the association world on the topic of digital content. Important benchmarks are now being released about attendance\, costs\, and ROI. Best practices and case studies are being shared in hundreds of outlets. As such\, many organizations are going with a digital-first strategy while others are longing for a return to 2019. Join us for an engaging and lively discussion where we explore the lessons learned and the possible paths for moving forward. Define what “hybrid” means\, how to have knowledgeable conversations with your stakeholders about digital delivery\, and what the possible outcomes of the various options could be. \nSpeakers: \n\n\n\n\n  Barry Schieferstein\, CMP\, DES\n  Director\, Events\n  American Society for Nondestructive Testing\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n  Sara Stehle\, CAE\, CMP\n  Owner and Independent Planner\n  Wow Moments Experience & Event Design\n\n\n\n  \n\n3:15 PM – 4:15 PM – Decision Made. Conference Relocated or Remained. Now What?\nToday’s Political Climate is complex. Beth Surmont of 360 Live Media will guide the conversation on how legislation affects the events industry and speak with two planners from organizations that have navigated either relocating an event or remained at destination despite opposition. This session will focus on the next steps that the organization needed to focus on and act upon after that decision was made. \nSpeakers: \n\n\n\n\n  Beth Surmont\, FASAE\, CMP-Fellow\, CAE\n  Vice President Event Strategy & Design\n  360 LIVE MEDIA\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n  Robin Troutman\n  Deputy Director\n  National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n  Nneka St. Gerard\, CMP\n  Chief Program Officer\n  Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine\n\n\n\n  \n\n4:30 PM – 5:00 PM – Better Together – Industry Idea Xchange\nAs we roll into the end of 2023\, we want to create open space for our smart community to learn and share from each other. This fun and interactive session will give you a moment to reflect\, an opportunity to learn\, and the chance to help out a fellow event professional. \n3 Takeaways: \n\nThe audience will reflect on the great things they have seen and done this year\nThe audience will present issues to each other to get feedback on resources and opportunities\nThe audience will have a chance to collect great thinking from their peers\n\nSpeaker:\n \n\n\n\n\n  Beth Surmont\, FASAE\, CMP-Fellow\, CAE\n  Vice President Event Strategy & Design\n  360 LIVE MEDIA\n\n\n\n  \n\n5:15 PM – 6:30 PM – Reception\nWe’ll wrap up PCMA’s Capital Chapter August Spark with a reception where you can reconnect with old friends and make new ones. \n  \n\nDate: Monday\, October 23rd\, 2023\, Montréal\, QC \nTime: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM EST \n11:00AM – 11:30AM – Registration \n11:30AM – 12:30PM – Speed Networking \n12:30PM – 1:00PM – Lunch \n1:00PM – 2:00PM – Education \n2:00PM – 3:00PM – Coffee & Dessert Reception with Networking & Prizes \n  \nPCMA Canada East Chapter is hosting a special Networking and Education event in downtown Montreal at Le Centre Sheraton Montréal Hôtel. \nThe event has been created with three different segments: an hour of networking at the beginning followed by an hour of education and finishing the day with another hour of networking. This will not be your typical networking event! The allotted networking time is for planners and suppliers to meet in a speed networking environment. \nEach Supplier registered will need to purchase a table to find new opportunities. We invite planners to join this special event on a complimentary basis\, making new connections\, and expanding their network by interacting with one another in a more intimate setting. \nSession Description: \n“You win by being unapologetically you.” \nThis motto is at the heart of Jake Karls’ bold business moves and unconventional career journey\, and sticking to it is his proudest achievement. Blocking out noise and naysayers\, Jake learned to get comfortable with the initial discomfort of simply being himself. Formerly insecure about pitching high-profile investors\, Jake cultivated the confidence to enjoy and gain strength from tough moments. His commitment to staying true to himself has allowed the brand to grow organically\, and the results have been pretty extraordinary. \nIn this impactful and inspiring keynote\, Jake urges you to trust your gut – the most powerful muscle you have – and find your superpower\, whatever it is. When you’re unapologetically you\, that’s when the magic and serendipity happen. \nAbout Our Speaker: \n \nJake Karls is a different type of business leader – unapologetically authentic\, refreshingly relatable\, and completely free of b*******. \nHe is the Co-founder and Chief Rainmaker of Mid-Day Squares\, the good-for-you chocolate brand that turned a kitchen-table dream into a global household name. Mid-Day Squares is leading the disruption of an extremely competitive vertical with a winning team\, innovative marketing strategy\, and fearless spirit. \nJake is recognized as a rising star in the business world.
