Dr. Hema Surendranathan

Professional that has headed Telecommunications, Media and Technology, Transport & Higher Education SEA and USA

Dr. Hema Surendranathan is a Malaysian ESG and corporate sustainability professional. She has worked in diverse sectors including Telecommunications, Media and Technology (“TMT”), Transport and Higher-Education in Southeast Asia and the United States.

Dr. Hema graduated from Bryn Mawr College with an AB in English in 2014 and from Cornell University’s Joint MFA-PhD program in 2021.

Gooi Yang Shuh

Partner, Skrine Advocates and Solicitors

Gooi is a Partner in Skrine’s Intellectual Property (IP) and Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) practice. His main portfolio focuses on IP litigation and enforcement, representing local and foreign clients in a wide range of IP disputes including patents, trademarks, copyright, passing off and domain names.

His practice encompasses advising domestic and international companies on brand protection and anti-counterfeiting strategies. This includes developing online monitoring and takedown programmes on e-commerce platforms, as well as coordinating enforcement actions with the Ministry of Domestic Trade against pirates and counterfeiters.

Gooi has experience in the media and entertainment sector, representing clients in music licensing and film & TV production negotiations. He also has a keen interest in IP issues relating to emerging technologies and digital platforms, including copyright challenges posed by use of generative AI, NFTs and user-generated content on social media.

Hew has nearly 30 years of seasoned professional experience in digital technology and services industry, management, global sales and business development capacity. His career has spanned across public listed companies, renown government agencies as well as multinational companies, including Green Packet, Symphony, Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation and InvestKL, International SOS and Lotus Sales & Services, XyLog and Ernst & Young. Currently a member of China’s International Maritime Chamber of Commerce Association Alliance and Deputy Chairman of Business Sector Committee cum National Councilor of Malaysia China Chamber of Commerce.

His strong suits encompass consultative selling, solution driven ability that has been acquired and developed over his consulting and business development career. His established career has developed a strong network that is advantageously leveraged for sales, business development, eco-system partnership development or “evangelist” roles with regular local and global speaking engagements, media interviews and articles contributor.

He has been enriched with the experience of engaging with C-suite personnel from Fortune 500, Forbes 2000 class of companies across various continents of Americas, Europe and North Asia. His philosophy of “win-win” and “trusted partnership” with both clients and partners; and “do the right thing” approach has strongly defined his career progress and achievement todate. Hew holds deeply to “no bad experience” philosophy and every experience is a “life enhancing” experience.
