From Chicago to China and Argentina to Australia, the GMID18 hashtag popped up in Twitter feeds around the world on April 12. In its third year, Global Meetings Industry Day continued to give event professionals opportunities to call attention to the massive impact that meetings and events have on the world. More than 160 events occurred in more than 30 countries, and the festivities included plenty of voices from outside the industry, too, with local elected leaders joining the fun. New York City’s iconic Empire State Building even played a role in the action with a blue lighting display to honor the role that meetings and events play in the city’s success.

PCMA’s chapter network hosted events from Hong Kong to Los Angeles. “On Global Meetings Industry Day, we come together to celebrate the immense power and impact of the meetings and business events industry,” PCMA President and CEO Sherrif Karamat said. “This global initiative provides a platform for us to educate our communities on the critical role our industry plays in driving both local and global economic and social transformation.”
