PCMA and the PCMA Education Foundation are pleased to offer these scholarship opportunities exclusively to our PCMA Student Members.

Some scholarships are awarded in the spring, others in the fall. Simply scroll down, or click on one of the links below to learn about each scholarship.

Roy B. Evans Scholarship

The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) Education Foundation is sponsoring five (5) tuition-based scholarships for $5,000 each.

Requirements: (to be considered, students must fulfill the following requirements):

  • Applicant must be a current PCMA student member
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a hospitality related degree granting program for at least 12 credit hours for undergraduate degrees or 9 credit hours for graduate programs.
  • Applicant must have a minimum of 3.0 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Recipients must maintain their full-time student status through the 2008-2009 fall and spring semesters/quarters.
  • Applicant must have achieved a minimum of 25 hours of volunteer/work experience in the hospitality industry prior to application, to be verified by PCMA
  • Applicant must be a current junior, senior or graduate student during the 2008-2009 school year.

ALL APPLICANTS MUST BE PCMA STUDENT MEMBERS AT THE TIME THE APPLICATION IS PROCESSED AND MUST MAINTAIN STUDENT MEMBERSHIP THROUGH THE 2008-2009 SCHOOL YEAR.

 PCMA Student Planner of the Year Scholarship

This opportunity gives one outstanding PCMA student member a chance to showcase their talents. The winner of this scholarship will develop a session at PCMA's 2009 Annual Meeting under the mentorship of an industry leader. The scholarship award will include round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, and registration for the 2009 PCMA Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, January 11 -14. The winner will also receive a $1,000 tuition based award as well as recognition at an awards ceremony at the Annual Meeting. This scholarship is sponsored by the PCMA Education Foundation.

The Student Planner of the Year Scholarship includes:

  • Complimentary airfare, registration, and housing (4 nights) to the 2009 PCMA Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA.
  • $1,000 tuition based award, payment will be sent directly to institution and made payable to institution 
  • Mentorship with a member of the Annual Meeting Planning Committee (AMPC) to collaborate in planning session
  • Recognition at the Annual Meeting
  • The opportunity to network with PCMA staff and industry leaders and gain valuable experience

Requirements: (to be considered, students must fulfill the following requirements):

  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA on 4.0 scale (proof required)
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
  • Completed Student Planner of the Year Application (see below)

PCMA Multicultural Scholarship

The PCMA Multicultural Student Scholarship is available to award funding to PCMA student members who have been traditionally underrepresented in the meetings/hospitality industry.

Up to five (5) deserving student members, have the opportunity to receive a $1,000 multicultural student scholarship to offset the expenses of tuition, textbooks, and other associated educational costs.  The awards are based on need and candidates must be recommended by Faculty Members at the institution at which the student is enrolled.

Requirements: (to be considered, students must fulfill the following requirements):

  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA on 4.0 scale (proof required)
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
  • Completed Annual Meeting Scholarship Application (see below)

ALL APPLICANTS MUST BE PCMA STUDENT MEMBERS AT THE TIME THE APPLICATION IS PROCESSED.

 NEW! Leadership Conference Scholarship

The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) Education Foundation is sponsoring up to five PCMA student members to attend the 2008 PCMA Leadership Conference June 8-10 in Los Angeles, CA.

Requirements: (to be considered, students must fulfill the following requirements):

  • Applicant must be a current PCMA student member
  • Applicant must have a minimum of 3.0 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a meetings/hospitality program for at least 6 credit hours
  • Applicant must be a member of Generation Y - born in 1980 or later
  • Applications must include: completed application, résumé, letter of recommendation by faculty member or university advisor, and essay of 500 words on "What Leaders REALLY Need to Know About Generation Y"
  • Application must be postmarked by April 18, 2008

The Leadership Conference Scholarship includes:

  • Complimentary airfare from the U.S. or Canada, event registration, and housing (up to 3 nights) for the 2008 PCMA Leadership Conference in Los Angeles, CA.
  • Recognition at the 2008 PCMA Leadership Conference
  • The opportunity to network with industry leaders and PCMA staff and gain valuable experience

The Leadership Conference Scholarship recipient is responsible for:

  • Preparing information on Generation Y. Be willing and able to provide your perspective on how best to work with and lead Generation Y
  • Preparing questions to help you understand the meeting and hospitality industry career paths Educating PCMA members on Generation Y and learn how to create a career in this industry
  • Attending other programs and recognition events as requested by PCMA

ALL APPLICANTS MUST BE PCMA STUDENT MEMBERS AT THE TIME THE APPLICATION IS PROCESSED AND MUST MAINTAIN STUDENT MEMBERSHIP THROUGH OCTOBER 1, 2008.

Annual Meeting Scholarship

The PCMA Education Foundation is sponsoring a scholarship for up to three (3) students to work and attend the 2009 PCMA Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. This is an opportunity for student members to join industry professionals and gain valuable experience that will prepare them for a career in the meetings industry.

Chairman's Scholarship

NYC & Company Convention and Visitors Bureau is proud to sponsor the PCMA Chairman's Scholarships, originally established to honor James H. Youngblood, PCMA's Chairman of the Board in 2001.  This annual award will allow up to two (2) PCMA student members to attend the 2009 PCMA Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA.   This is an excellent opportunity to network with Industry Leaders and fellow students while enjoying the special distinction of being a 2008 Chairman's Scholar.

Student Chapter of the Year (SCOTY) Award

The annual Student Chapter of the Year (SCOTY) Award is awarded to up to 4 (four) PCMA student chapters that best demonstrate overall leadership, academic excellence, community/campus involvement, web site development, membership growth and participation in the hospitality industry.  This scholarship is sponsored by the PCMA Education Foundation. The four winning chapters are awarded up to $500 to fund an educational, community service or membership program to spend during the 2008-2009 school year.
