Getting Your Audience the Best Seats in the House...
and Increase Capacity
September 16, 2010
Set your chairs in the traditional straight row and 50-70% of your participants will experience pain while corkscrewing their bodies to watch the presentation. Make one minor adjustment, at no additional cost, and they gain line of sight, comfort, safety, bonding, dynamics, see other participants (it's supposed to be a face-to-face meeting) and they learn more. You will even increase room capacity.
In this session you will:
Experience three distinct room sets
Practice five seating principles
Apply fifteen factors to troubleshoot, set, and "fine tune" your meeting room
Learn quick design tips, AVE, traffic flow, noise abatement, lighting, ADA,
and accommodate last minute registrations.
Speaker Information
Dr. Paul O. Radde has a Black belt in meeting room design. He has equaled or exceeded the seating capacity in every room he has re-set from straight to curved row seating. He wrote the Convention Liaison Council 6th Ed. chapter on room sets, and is also featured in the 3M Meeting Management Team book Mastering Meetings. Dr. Radde recently published Seating Matters: State of the Art Seating Arrangements which spells out the "seating advantage."

A Letter from the President:
Dear RMPCMA members,
Are you getting the ROI (Return On Investment) from your RMPCMA membership that you want and deserve?
In finance, ROI is the amount of profit from an investment made. In the world of associations, ROI is the return we receive from the investment made for membership in a professional or trade association. This year, I challenge you to consider a different definition of ROI: instead of Return On Investment, think Return On Involvement.
Getting involved with others in your industry helps build relationships. That's why you'll see a great return when you truly engage in RMPCMA. Relationships build business opportunities.
Consider Scott Collinsworth, Director of Sales with Image Audiovisual and the RMPCMA 2010 President-Elect. He joined RMPCMA five years ago and since then has been an active volunteer. His colleagues view him as an industry leader, and as such he has been able to realize new business opportunities...this year alone Scott secured a new meeting worth $65,000 as a direct result of a relationship he developed because of RMPCMA.
Consider Carol Cudworth, Meeting Manager with Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration, Inc. She joined RMPCMA ten years ago, but just recently became a volunteer on the Sponsorships Committee. Her commitment to volunteer has provided her with a forum to network with other planners and share best practices, while at the same time allowing her to take a breather from her everyday responsibilities and enjoy the company of her local community of colleagues.
Scott's Return On Involvement has led to greater business success. Carol's Return on Involvement has enhanced her business relationships. What could your Return on Involvement be?
In the year ahead, I encourage you to maximize your PCMA membership. We have planned many opportunities for you to get involved with your chapter - read about them below. Best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous 2010.
Our Community Services Committee will continue their important work serving meals for families at the Ronald McDonald House as well as participating in a new project at RAFT, the Resource Area For Teachers, which will involve sorting unused, donated materials which teachers can purchase at incredibly low prices. The dates of these programs are May 12 and October 5 and if you are interested in helping, please let Michael Clare-Tedford, the Community Services Director, know.
The Programs Committee is working hard to provide you, our members, with the highest quality education. The July 8th educational program will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Denver and the topic will be sponsorships and the impact they can have on your event.
