PCMA 2015 Global Meetings Executive of the Year Award Recipient Announced


FRANKFURT, Germany, May 20, 2015 – The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) announced the recipient of the 2015 Global Executive of the Year Award as Pieter Swart, Managing Director Conference Consultancy South Africa (PTY) Ltd.

Swart is a globally respected thought leader, obtaining his CMP in 2006 and is currently the only CMM in Africa. He has directed the planning and management of more than 100 conferences ranging up to 9,000 people and has been involved in more than 400 events as strategic advisor, consultant, project manager or presenter.

The award, presented by Deborah Sexton, PCMA President and CEO, at last night’s IMEX Gala Dinner, celebrates meeting executives who demonstrate a vision, commitment and passion for the advancement and education of the global meetings industry.

“Pieter is the consummate global professional” said Sexton. “He has led conference project assignments in 16 international destinations and secured significant high profile international bids, such as World Summit on Sustainable Development – regarded as one of the most notable and memorable conferences held in Africa. Pieter epitomizes the spirt of this award and I was honored to recognize his accomplishments.”

Swart is a lifelong event management scholar working on the strategic considerations of event psychology and physiology and the application of those in event management. He is the author and lead presenter of basic and strategic event management workshops presented locally and internationally to advance event planning and management competencies through which he demonstrates his commitment to the professionalization of the industry.

Swart is an International Board Member of the Africa Protocol Officers Association and a member of the Tourism Program Advisory Committee of Department of Tourism at the University of South Africa.
