The compassion and community support of the PCMA Southeast Chapter is truly humbling. In an effort to broaden our community outreach, we launched a new program this month at our August luncheon called Snack Sax. The generosity of the membership and willingness to embrace this new program was phenomenal. With only one request, we received many more donations than anticipated. The snacks filled the donation table at our event, and countless volunteers decorated the bags. All donations have been taken to Embry Hills United Methodist church for distribution, as the kids begin school this week and will provide much needed nutrition for many underprivileged children who might otherwise not have anything to eat after the school day ends.
Our ongoing collection of needs for supplies for the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children continues to help those displaced by hard economic or social issues to gain self-respect and move forward with rebuilding their lives. We collect supplies for the shelter throughout the year. Any unused hotel amenities, baby items, school supplies, and clothing are always needed and appreciated. You may bring them to any PCMA SE function or contact the board if you would like to donate at any time.
The following items are ongoing needs for the shelter:
- Small (8oz or smaller) hand sanitizer
- Travel size toiletries
- Air Freshener (plug in or spray)
- Sweat Pants in all sizes
- Comfortable / Athletic Type Shoes
- Watches (inexpensive)
- Day Planners or Small Calendars
The Community Service Committee will be collecting again for the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children at our 3rd Annual Bowling Event on September 8th, and thereafter we will be preparing for another special day of serving lunch to the women and children served by the shelter in November.
We appreciate your continued support of all of our community service programs and welcome anyone who is interested in either joining the committee, suggesting new ideas, or helping with our events. Please look for the sign up information in the next newsletter or check the website for more details on getting involved.
Thank you for sponsoring the PCMA SE Community Service project:
