Best Budget Bets In This Top Offshore Meetings Destination

Jeanna Hofmeister

Dubai is legendary for its palatial hotels, trendy restaurants and amazing shopping. For convention planners and their attendees concerned with the expense of meeting offshore, Dubai also serves up an eclectic offering of hip, budget-friendly hotels in the heart of the city’s cultural and shopping districts.

When I caught up with the Dubai Tourism team, they had a few suggestions for budget-worthy hotels that delivered in terms of both quality and service. Some properties even featured space and catering for smaller meetings and retreats. With more than 500 hotels in Dubai, some for as little as $26 a night, I’ve opted to share a select group of properties at which accommodations range in price from just $60-$70 per night* (note that rates do change seasonally.) All three were highly rated by customers for location, service, quality and convenience.

Rove Hotel Downtown Dubai

At just $65 a night, the newly opened Rove Hotel, located in the heart of downtown, is just steps away from many of Dubai’s world-class attractions including the Dubai Mall and the stunning Burj Khalifa’s At the Top Lounge, featuring the world’s highest outdoor observation deck at 1820 feet high. The hotel’s hip interior design, restaurant and rooms are trendy, but customers most frequently comment on the excellent level of staff service. The hotel also offers innovative and functional meeting and event spaces for social and business gatherings, with free WiFi and an unlimited supply of complimentary coffee, tea and ice water.

Melia Dubai

With rates as low as $67 per night, the Melia Dubai features entertaining interiors with contemporary art pieces from all over the world. Located close to the Dubai World Trade Centre, Gold & Spice Souks, the hotel is also just a short walk from the Dubai Museum and Dubai Creek. Both the service and food rated as top mentions from customers along with their luxurious bathrooms and the rooftop pool.  State-of-the-art technology and ergonomically-engineered seating are featured in the property’s meeting spaces that include a small ballroom as well as two board rooms.

Flora Grand Hotel Dubai

The Flora Grand, located in the center of Old Dubai, offers rooms for as little as $53 a night. In an area buzzing with culture and tradition, expect to find lots of street-side activity, authentic Middle Eastern food and lots of options nearby for both desert and water excursions. Customers rave about the service, outstanding breakfast buffet and spacious rooms, along with the hotel’s proximity to the Metro lines. With five different boardrooms and ballrooms, all of which offer natural light, smaller meetings and events for up to 275 people can be easily accommodated.

Discovering Dubai on a budget means attendees can spend more of their post program time on authentic experiences, with enough money left to bring some treasures back home. Bring on the camel rides, desert safaris and lots of awesome market excursions!
