I know what most people think when they hear the buzz about Snapchat: ugh, there’s another social media platform I have to master? The answer is yes. As more smartphone users download the app and connect with their friends, Snapchat is becoming just as important as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. However, Snapchat isn’t designed with the same scroll-forever style of the major players in the social media landscape. It comes with a new set of features and a new set of norms that guide how to engage an audience.
At the PCMA Education Conference, Derek Britton of DAHLIA+ gave a group of meeting professionals and suppliers an introduction to the ins and outs of Snapchat, and after the session, he caught up with CNTV to offer some insights into why the convention industry needs to care about a platform where content is built to disappear. “Snapchat is not just for kids these days,” Britton said. “Everyone’s starting to take notice of it. The purpose [in meetings] is to engage your audience in the way that they’re consuming media, and Snapchat is the next big thing.”
