The first half of 2016 has brought us 21 new members. The committee is working hard to continue our monthly renewals calls and reaching out to new members to welcome them to the Heartland Chapter. At PCMA’s Education Conference in St. Louis at the end of June we met new people from St. Louis and connected with our members in that area at the Heartland Chapter Reception on Monday evening.

Our May event, “The Happy Hour Effect: 5 Key Commitments for Work/Life Success,”,by speaker, Kristen Brown, was outstanding! We all walked away with a better appreciation for time management and how to deal with stress in our lives. It was held at the beautiful new Hyatt Place Lenexa with over 45 people in attendance.

Our committee is working on developing a Speakers Resource List for schools. We will be reaching out to all of our members, asking if they are willing to speak to student classes, and what topics they might cover. For those who love to speak, please reach out to Teresa or Kate to volunteer. You can earn CEU’s for recredentialing or points for CMP application.
Also, Kate did a video interview for Professor Kristin’s classes at KSU. Professor Kristin will be using these videos in her classes this fall.
In addition, Teresa spoke at Johnson County Community College on a panel to students in their final hospitality program with four others about what employers are looking for, the skills needed for success, and the career options in the industry.
We added three new members to the committee: Marilyn Kohler, Little Rock CVB, Vicki Comegys, Des Moines CVB and Libby Dischert, St. Louis CVB.

One June 20, we visited the Ronald McDonald House for our Community Service Event. While there we made snack bags for families and also played games and arts and crafts with any patients and families.
As mentioned, at the May 12th meeting, PCMA Heartland Chapter members brought donations of gift cards, books, puzzles, and many other items to donate to Children's Mercy Hospital. Thank you! We had around six bags full of donation goodies. The administration was so excited and thankful for everything we brought.
Below are pictures from our donation drop off. In the first photo are Lauren Harlan, Amy Steinwand and Angie Garcia (Amy's twin sister).
