2015 PCMA Heartland Chapter Award Winners

Brad Plumb, CMP, Senior Sales Manager at Overland Park Convention & Visitors Bureau (OPCVB)

The PCMA Heartland Awards Banquet is a chance to recognize and celebrate the rock stars of our Chapter.  Many of the recipients work behind the scene and we would never know of their accomplishments unless they were called out at this annual event, held each January in the Kansas City metro.

Distinguished Meeting Professional of the Year:

Kerry Kerr, HelmsBriscoe

The description of this award reads in part that the recipient is a role model and exemplify professional excellence. That pretty much sums up Kerry. Some of the comments received are:

“Kerry continues to be a true leader and mentor to this chapter. She has excelled as the committee chair of sponsorships for the past few years and has grown the Chapter’s finances in a positive way.”

“Kerry has done an exemplary job and raised the bar as our sponsorship chair. She has great vision and tenacity. She has assumed the incoming president-elect position and will be a great future President for our Chapter.”

Distinguished Supplier Partner of the Year:

Kurt Dietz

A member of the hospitality industry since 2002, Kurt’s involvement and support of various professional organizations is legendary. A comment from one of the members that recommended Kurt reads:

“Kurt stepped in during last summer to take on an 18 month role as the program committee co-chair. I feel like Kurt has thrived in this role and he has stepped up to be the go-to person for a few of our 2015 programs and being an integral part of planning the 2016 program year. Kurt’s employer Caesar’s has sponsored several planners at events in 2015, which has helped more planners attend meetings they may not have been able to attend. Kurt has certainly brought the supplier side of our industry to the table during board meetings and our retreat.”

Emerging Leader Award:

Keri Magnuson, CMP, Children’s Hospital Association

This award is presented to an individual that is seen as having great potential in future PCMA Heartland leadership. Keri has been in the industry as a planner and a supplier since 2000 and continues to make her mark in the hospitality industry. Comments include:

“Keri’s creativity and organization has been well received over the last six months and her input and forward thinking has elevated the programs committee and will continue our chapter’s mission of producing and offering the best education to our members. Keri’s dedication to the chapter is greatly appreciated and we look forward to her future commitment to our members for many years to come!”

Distinguished Member of the Year Award:

Judy Kirchmann, Conference Direct

A previous recipient of PCMA’s ‘Emerging Leader of the Year’ award and a Heartland board member, Judy Kirchmann firmly believes in the philosophy of shared success. Ask any of those that have professionally partnered with her over the years. Recommendations for this award include the following comments:

“Judy has done an outstanding job of engaging the Board of Directors in our membership recruitment efforts. I believe our Chapter is the only one who participated in a "Thank You" campaign, and reached out to all current members in 2015 to thank them for their membership and encourage participation in upcoming Educational programs in 2016.”

“Judy has served on the board for some time now and always takes the time to travel to most meetings from Omaha. She works very hard to keep our membership committee going strong. We have made some great strides in growing our membership and improving retention under her leadership. She is always a cheerleader for others, and has been so kind to me personally as I have gone through some challenges this year. She is a great example to our industry.”
