Meet Your New Chapter President For 2016

Eric Jacobson, Vice President, Media Development, Ascend Integrated Media

David P. Kinney, Director of Midwest Sales, Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau is the Heartland Chapter's president for 2016.

Today, David shared his background, schooling, hobbies and what he is passionate about. And, why the Heartland Chapter is so important to him. Get to know David as he responds to a quick a list of questions:

Grew Up in:  I grew up in Oxford, IA – a small town in Eastern Iowa in the outskirts of Iowa City. Have lived in Chicago for 16 years. Have worked for such hotel chains as Hyatt and Hilton, and worked for Destination Marketing Organizations such as Puerto Rico and now Louisville. Currently reside in downtown Chicago, in a high-rise condo building with views of Lake Michigan, Willis (formerly Sears) Tower, and The Chicago River.

Went to University at:  I attended The University of Kansas and majored in Accounting/Business Administration. I also attended graduate school at Iowa State University for Hotel, Restaurant, & Institution Management

Joined PCMA in:  I became a PCMA member in 2009. Had some great mentors in the Heartland Chapter that I have learned a lot from, and I look to provide that same opportunity for someone new to the industry that might need some guidance.

Excited to be the Chapter’s President Because:  I’m excited to become the PCMA President because I have admired many of the leaders in the industry within the Heartland Chapter for a number of years, and am proud of the accomplishments this Chapter has achieved.

What I Like Best About the Heartland Chapter:  I have always loved the friendly nature of the hospitality and association professionals within our Chapter.  We stick together and we support one another.

I also like that our Past Presidents stay active within our Chapter, which isn't always the case in other chapters. That says a lot about each of their commitment to PCMA Heartland.

Favorite Food:  I am a sucker for Mexican Food, Meatloaf, and Ice Cream. Who said eating ice cream out of the carton is a sin?

Favorite MovieGoonies and A League of Their Own were my favorites growing up.

Song I Like to Sing Along With:  Music of all types inspire me. I love singing along to country music and female ballads. I will always try to take the harmony part, and fail miserably.

When I am Not Working, I am:  When I am not working, I enjoy watching college athletics. My favorite teams are the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. I love attending Hawkeye basketball and football games when I go home to visit family, and might even have been known to build a sales trip around an away Iowa Football game. I have recently become a big fan of SoulCycle the new spinning class phenomenon. I used to be an avid golfer, and miss having the opportunity to play regularly.

I have one sister Sarah who lives in Overland Park, KS who is an event planner and works in the industry.  I am a proud uncle to a nephew and niece, both under five years old. I make it a point to visit them at least once every time I make it to Kansas City for work and PCMA events.

Favorite Place to Vacation
:  I travel a lot for work, and sometimes just enjoy a weekend home in rural Iowa, especially during the Fall Harvest season. But some of my favorite cities to visit are Seattle, Minneapolis, San Francisco. And I take an annual Fall Foliage drive each year (some of my favorites have been Michigan; Asheville, NC; Tennessee Smoky Mountains; Historic Brown County in Southern Indiana; and Park City, UT)

What I do Well:  I am a people connector and a relator. I have always enjoyed connecting people to others, or people to places. That has always come natural to me, and why this industry has been a great fit for me.
