The Greater Midwest Chapter congratulates Christine Wilson as the recipient of the GMC Student Scholarship for the 2015-2016 academic year.
Christine is a 4th year student at Michigan State University, with an expected graduation date of December 2016. A Hotel & Restaurant Management major, Christine’s exceptional school record, past service to her Student Chapter and participation in GMC Chapter events led to her selection by the Student Scholarship Task Force.
She was elected by her peers to lead MSU’s Student Chapter as their Vice President within the last year and has participated in GMC Education Events and our GMC PCMA Student Day. Her passion for our industry and for PCMA shined through in her application and personal essay. We are very proud to give this tuition-based scholarship to Christine for 2016!
Christine shares her reaction and some thoughts on her future below.
What was your reaction to learning that you are a scholarship recipient?
Pure elation! When I opened my email from Julie Mullins, congratulating me on earning the scholarship, I had chills throughout my body. Not only did I feel like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders financially, but I also felt like I had been recognized and appreciated by PCMA in an incredibly positive and rewarding way.
In what ways do you feel this will be helpful?
This scholarship will be helpful for me in funding my tuition as well as continuing my education abroad this summer to study marketing in Europe. Apart from the financial aspect of the scholarship, it provides great confidence to receive such a prestigious award. I am thankful and honored to be able to represent the Greater Midwest Chapter of PCMA.
Why do you think you received this award?
I believe I received this award because I am passionate about PCMA as well as the meeting and events industry. I also enjoy leading underclassmen in our student chapter at Michigan State University and exposing them to the meetings and events industry. Having attended three Convening Leaders Conferences and the PCMA Student Day in Chicago this past October helped demonstrate my commitment to this outstanding association and my love of learning. Lastly, I believe another reason I was selected for this scholarship was because I enjoy networking and developing as a young professional in this industry. Not only do I want to become a leader in this industry post-graduation from MSU, but I also want to continue my professional membership with PCMA throughout my career.
