If you have been monitoring the conversation surrounding the next wave of cutting-edge convention facilities, chances are that you have been hearing plenty about the Sultanate of Oman. From the inaugural PCMA Oman Advisory Summit
to the most recent International Congress & Convention Association rankings
of the best countries for group business, the country’s popularity is soaring. Oman’s international reputation as a premier place to do business is no surprise to Troy Reynolds, CMP, Head of Event Operations at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre (OCEC). As Reynolds watches construction near completion at the OCEC, he says that one of the key differentiators for the Center is his team’s ability to think big.
“One is only limited by their imagination,” Reynolds says. “We are working to channel everyone’s energy in the right direction, and our team approach combined with the SMART systems in the actual venue will set us apart from other venues.”
Reynolds knows other venues quite well, too. His impressive resumé includes serving as the Operations Director at the International Convention Centre in Durban, South Africa and the same position at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha. Reynolds’ numbers speak for themselves. In Durban, his team achieved satisfaction levels of above 95 percent and attained repeat business levels of over 75 percent for three consecutive years. He plans to apply a simple yet powerful principle to all partnership efforts with meeting planners and exhibition organizers in Oman.
“We will always strive to go beyond expectation and not just settle for satisfaction and success,” Reynolds says.
That approach is already proving to be a powerful tool in winning big business. While the OCEC does not officially open until 2016, local exhibition organizers Oman International Trade and Exhibitions (OITE) and East Expo have already chosen the venue for key upcoming events COMEX and the International Medical Tourism Exhibition & Conference respectively. As the planners in charge of those events prepare to welcome their audiences to Oman, they will be able to count on Reynolds’ expertise to ensure they create smooth and successful attendee experiences. Reynolds is a passionate lifelong student of the convention industry. From PCMA to Successful Meetings to MeetingsNet and more, Reynolds regularly tunes into industry-leading webinars covering crowd management, health and safety, green meetings and virtual events. He aims to keep a finger on the pulse of the trends and issues impacting the future of meetings and events to ensure he can be an asset to every client who comes to the Centre. However, his passion is about more than the meetings industry; he knows that his position can play a pivotal role in the future of the country.
“We want to make a difference in the business tourism industry for the greater good of the Sultanate of Oman,” Reynolds says.
