Looking Back – Looking Ahead…
I recently attended my nephew’s high school graduation and couldn’t help but think back to my own graduation from that same school, just a few short years ago. ☺ I was actually the Valedictorian for my class, and so began my public speaking engagements. Little did I know that speaking in front of my peers and our families at a small community high school would lead me to making presentations and addressing crowds throughout my career, whether in my paid position or in a volunteer role.
After high school, I couldn’t wait to start college, so I began taking classes that summer. As the end of college neared, I was so excited to graduate and get into the “real world” and be finished with the educational chapters of my life. At that time, I didn’t think I would ever have to participate in formal education again. The concept of continuing education never crossed my mind. Now, I can’t imagine going through life and my career without it. We should strive to learn more, whether personally or professionally, to grow and remain relevant in order to keep our minds sharp.
You never know where life’s path will take you. Mine took me from a small high school, speaking to my peers about the past, present and future to today addressing my fellow PCMA SE Chapter members. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the education and networking opportunities provided by our industry. Your PCMA SE Chapter Board works hard all year to bring those same opportunities to you, and I hope you will join me at our next program on August 5, 2015 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Until then, enjoy your summer and don’t forget to join us on social media. #PCMASE
