As medical meeting attendees search for groundbreaking new products, there is one new technology that is sure to start a roar of conversations on trade show floors: the Rx Robots MEDi®. The two-foot-tall robot, designed to help children overcome their fears during medical procedures, already made some big waves at one of the most recognized shows in the US: CES.
“If there was one product that brought a tear to your eye, it was the RxRobots MEDi®,” Rob Enderle at Tech Zone 360 wrote when he named the robot the Product with the Most Heart at CES in January. “It just warmed my heart to see someone focus on our most important audience and one often forgotten at shows like this.”
From handing out high-fives to telling stories to helping kids relax with Tai Chi, MEDi® has been shown to reduce children’s pain by 50 percent in tests at the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary. While RxRobots developed MEDi, the company has been able to spread the technology to new care environments with support from Innovate Calgary, an organization that helped RxRobots develop a business model and attract international support for MEDi® through extensive pitch coaching.
Innovate Calgary’s portfolio includes a wide range of other projects that will impact the medical landscape, too. With a new therapeutic technology for pain treatment, new anti-arrhythmic drugs and more, the organization has distinguished Calgary as a city with the ideas and ingenuity to create global change.
According to Heather Lundy, Director of Marketing + Communications, Calgary TELUS Convention Centre, "We’re home to the largest number of tech start-ups per-capita in Canada, Calgary has a creative energy. It is a collaborative city, with a can-do attitude. Meeting planners who choose Calgary are connected to the energy present in our local knowledge hub, sparking new ideas and innovations for their conference."
