As a result of the tremendous fundraising by the Greater Midwest Chapter in 2014, we were able to bestow a donation of $18,500 to our charity partner — Little Brothers, Friends of the Elderly (LBFE). The check was presented to Simone Mitchell-Peterson, CEO, and Cecilia Straney, Chief Development Officer of LBFE, at the Greater Midwest Chapter’s Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at the Hilton Rosemont.

To say our friends at LBFE were surprised by the donation is an understatement! As Simone noted to Keri Kelly, 2015 CSC Chair, a day after receiving the check, “I have to tell you that I'm still in shock and pinching myself over the kindness and generosity of PCMA. Thank you elevating the status of older adults.”
The mission of LBFE is to alleviate loneliness and isolation among the elderly. During the last year, our chapter volunteers generously contributed to that mission by providing jubilant coffee club celebrations such as a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, a Hawaiian Luau, a Halloween Extravaganza, and the final event, a Holiday Luncheon Bash. Those events induced profound joy, excitement and inspiration amongst everyone. The elders are waiting patiently
for the 2015 events. Cecilia Straney had shared that “the events provide an emotional boost that carry with the elders for a good long while.” We are thrilled we are able to contribute in such an impactful way.
On behalf of the Community Services Committee, we thank everyone for your generous contributions throughout the year to Little Brothers, Friends of the Elderly and for Bowl-a-Thon. Last year was an amazing year for growth in the events experience and fundraising efforts, and we are ecstatic about what is in store for 2015! We welcome everyone to come join in our efforts with Little Brothers. We can promise it is a rewarding experience.
