PCMA GIVES BACK TO THE CHICAGO COMMUNITY

PCMA partners with local charities to make a difference during their annual meeting, Convening Leaders, in Chicago this week

CHICAGO, IL, January 13, 2015 - The Professional Convention Management Association’s annual meeting, Convening Leaders, will deliver hands-on volunteer efforts and much-needed financial assistance to several Chicago-based charitable organizations this week.

Program: Party With A Purpose

Benefits: Future Founders, Network for the Needy® & PCMA Education Foundation

On Monday, January 12, 1200 meeting professionals celebrated for a cause as the proceeds from Party With a Purpose ticket sales help support Future Founders, PCMA’s Network for the Needy® and the PCMA Education Foundation. In its 22nd year, PWAP has raised more than $2 million for a range of notable causes as PCMA leads the meeting industry’s efforts to make a difference in communities around the world.

The party is supported by partners: Global Event Specialist, Inc – the Founding and Sustaining Sponsor, the House of Blues venue, our music partners the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Austin Convention Center, the Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau, Choose Chicago, London & Partners and Howl 2 Go by Howl at the Moon.

Program: Hospitality Helping Hands:

Benefits: Greater Chicago Food Depository (Chicago’s food bank)

PCMA’s Hospitality Helping Hands program, sponsored by Experient, Marriott’s Convention and Resort Network and Global Experience Specialist, took place on Sunday, January 11Nearly 120 attendees repackaged more than 33,000 pounds of food at the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) - a $5 credit for every hour worked by an attendee at the GCFD is being donated to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls (estimating $1,800).

The Greater Chicago Food Depository - founded in 1979, makes a daily impact across Cook County with a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, mobile programs, children’s programs, older adult programs and innovative responses that address the root causes of hunger. Last year, the Food Depository distributed 67 million pounds of shelf-stable food, fresh produce, dairy products and meat, the equivalent of 154,000 meals every day.

Program: Network for the Needy® Donation Drive: Mercy Home for Boys & Girls

Benefits: kids in crisis with the support and guidance they need to realize their own potential and make positive decisions. Mercy Home offers full time living, activities, mentor programs, AfterCare programs and more.

PCMA attendees donated 963 toiletries items, first aid supplies, mittens, t-shirts and school supplies. Network for the Needy is sponsored by Founding and Principal Sponsor, Global Experience Specialists, Inc.
