On Tuesday, Nov. 11, members of GMC PCMA gathered at the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) for a Service-in-Sync day event. Service-in-Sync is a PCMA nationwide program encouraging members to come together on a particular day and give back to their local communities on behalf of the meetings industry.
Twelve individuals gave their morning to a worthy cause. The group goal was to make up as many two-pound bags of pasta as possible. Various teams managed tasks. One group transferred the bulk pasta from large cartons to smaller, easier-to-manage boxes. Another group broke down the smaller boxes of pasta into bags, passing the bags to the weigh and sealing station. From there, they were labeled and boxed for delivery. The food will be distributed in and around Chicago via various food pantry locations. The morning’s efforts produced 157 cases of bagged pasta which will ultimately feed 1,197 needy individuals.
An added benefit to the work was that GMC PCMA’s chosen beneficiary, Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly (LBFE) earned a $15.00 credit for every PCMA attendee present. LBFE will receive a total credit valued at $180.00 to use at the Greater Chicago Food Depository to supplement their grocery needs.
It was a fun and rewarding morning. Thanks again to all who volunteered!
