5 Signs It’s Time To Leave Your Job

In July, more than 2.5 million people quit their jobs. Do you wish you were one of them? As the economy continues to strengthen, plenty of meeting professionals and suppliers are beginning to explore new career avenues. If you’ve been teetering on the edge of hopping back into the job market, here are five signs it’s time to make the leap.

1) Your responsibilities are a lot bigger, but your paychecks look the same.

Do you remember reading the job description before you applied? Now, how does that description compare with what you’re actually doing on a day-to-day basis? If issues within your organization have led to piling additional to-do times on your desk, it’s time to ask for a pay increase — or find another employer who will offer you the compensation you deserve.

2) You aren’t contributing your idea power.

Feel like all you’re doing is taking orders from someone else? While everyone in the office has to complete certain tasks, you should also feel like you can share opinions that will shape the future of the organization. If your name is always left off the invite-list for brainstorming sessions, it’s time to find a new work home where your creativity can shine.

3) Stress won’t leave you alone.

Sure, every employee faces pulse-increasing situations. However, feeling overwhelmed shouldn’t feel like the norm. According to a recent survey from California-based employee health management firm Keas, nearly one in five employees is losing sleep due to work-related issues. If you fall into that category, it’s time to reclaim your beauty sleep and find a job that won’t wake you in the middle of the night to check your email.

4) Feedback is a foreign word.

When was the last time your boss sat down and offered you some helpful advice on how to improve your performance? If you can’t remember, chances are you may be a bit frustrated with the lack of feedback. Your boss has plenty of big concerns, but your career growth needs to be one of them, too. Make sure you’re in a position with a leader who talks, listens and shares tips on how you can be better.

5) Your colleagues are constantly becoming your former coworkers.

First, Bob in accounting left. Then, Sherry in sales submitted her two-week notice. Next, Erica in HR said her goodbyes. If it seems like the only constant in your office is the changing nameplates, you may want to pay attention to your peers. While you certainly don’t need to just follow the crowd, you also don’t want to be the last employee standing.
