Today the Oman Tourism Development Corporation (Omran) and AEG Ogden have announced a partnership with the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) aimed at establishing the convention and business events industry as a key economic driver for the Sultanate of Oman.
Omran was established by the Government of Oman to deliver major projects and manage its assets and investments in the tourism sector including the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre that will be operated by AEG Ogden.
Internationally renowned PCMA has been engaged to provide training to a range of business events industry stakeholders in Oman.
The education offerings will be provided through PCMA’s globally recognized accreditation training programmes that address the key areas of sales development, service development and meeting logistics.
PCMA will also provide two educational tracks at both the 2014 and 2015 Oman Advisory Summit.
The first will be tailored for Oman and the meetings industry across the Sultanate to assist in further development and education of Omani associations/NGO’s while the second will be dedicated to increasing meetings business from North America and other global markets.
Another important component of the partnership is marketing of Oman and its new Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre, due for completion in 2016.
PCMA’s Chief Operating Officer, Sherrif Karamat said his organization was continually looking to increase engagement globally through a range of high level educational offerings.
“By providing more diverse perspectives in education and cultural resources, it will support our Member’s needs, and at the same time making the business events industry stronger,” he said.
Omran CEO Wael Al Lawati said the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre will be a serious player in the highly competitive global business events.
“We believe a key selling point for Oman and the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre will be the ability to deliver first-class events that showcase the traditional and unique Omani hospitality.
“PCMA‘s global direction is a perfect match for our vision to provide global accreditation and training platforms. Together we will share Oman’s story with the world, Mr Al Lawati said.
AEG Ogden’s Director of Convention Centres, Geoff Donaghy said it was the first time PCMA has entered into such a partnership to establish a green field convention destination outside of North America.
“The global expertise of AEG Ogden and the strength of PCMA’s network will ensure a very powerful alliance for Oman and the centre,” Mr. Donaghy said.
The partnership will commence on January 1, 2014.
