Chapter Members Gave Hands-On Help at PAWS

GMC Community Services Committee

On Friday, November 8th the Greater Midwest Chapter PCMA volunteered at Paws Chicago for the annual Service In Sync effort.  PAWS Chicago was founded to end the unnecessary killing of homeless pets by informing and engaging the public and the media to help bring about change.   The mission of Paws Chicago is to build no-kill communities – starting with a no-kill Chicago – that respect and value the life of every cat and dog.  Paws Chicago also strives to end the overpopulation of homeless animals through solutions, practices and education.  Through community outreach, Paws Chicago continues to transform animal welfare by setting higher standards in the way animals are treated and developing a sustainable, solutions-based model.

Volunteers helped assemble badges for Paws’ annual Fur Ball, which is one of the shelter’s largest fundraisers.   The 12 volunteers also cleaned, helped with dishes, and gave the animals much love and attention.  GMC PCMA members who were not able to physically volunteer brought items from the shelter’s “wish list” such as food, leashes, cleaning supplies, and treats to the GMC Bowl-a-Thon that week.  In all, six large bags of items were collected in addition to cash donations.
