As Chris Wehking, CMP, prepares for his upcoming term as Chairman of the PCMA Board of Directors, he’s adding plenty of additional responsibilities to his to-do list.
Wehking, who currently serves as the Director of Meetings & Exhibits for the American Society of Anesthesiologists, has been promoted to serve as Chief Program Officer for the organization. The promotion is part of a revamped organizational structure that’s been in the making since Paul Pomerantz took over the reigns as CEO of ASA, and it places Wehking in charge of membership, marketing, corporate relations and meetings and events.
The big leap forward is well-deserved for Wehking whose resume already includes more than 20 years of leadership in the meetings industry. From starting his career at Hilton Hotels to overseeing meetings calendars for the American Hardware Manufacturers Association and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Wehking’s track record positions him well to help ASA navigate the ever-evolving world of healthcare.
“On behalf of everyone at PCMA, we want to wish Chris congratulations on this new phase of his career,” Deborah Sexton, CEO, PCMA, says of the news. “He’s the definition of an expert in the healthcare arena. As medical meetings continue to change, he will continue to steer ASA toward a very successful future.”
Wehking says that the search for his replacement will be getting underway immediately, and he won’t get much of a break. The four-day ASA Annual Meeting begins in San Francisco on Saturday, October 12.
