to be inducted into the CIC Hall of Leaders

CHICAGO, Illinois, April 11, 2013
- The Professional Convention Management Association announces that four of the organization’s members will be inducted into the Convention Industry Council Hall of Leaders this October. The 2013 class includes two members of the PCMA Education Foundation Board of Trustees Liz Erikson, Executive Director, Meetings & Incentives, Fairmont-Raffles-Swissotel and Eduardo Chaillo, CMP, CMM, Consultant, Global Meetings and Tourism Specialists, and two long-standing PCMA members Peggy Daidakis, Executive Director, Baltimore Convention Center and Stephen Powell, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales, Intercontinental Hotels Group. The inductees represent influential leaders who have shaped the industry over a lifetime of accomplishments and whose contributions have left an indelible impression on the industry.

“This is an incredible honor that four of the five honorees are PCMA members.  Our Board of Trustee members, Liz and Eduardo, have been trailblazers in this industry and have been instrumental in moving both PCMA and the industry forward,” said Deborah Sexton, president and CEO for the Professional Convention Management Association. “What they have both challenged the industry to do in terms of research, advocacy, and education – will be their enduring legacy.”

About the Inductees

Liz Erikson: Serving as Chair of the PCMA Board of Trustees and Secretary/Treasurer of the PCMA Education Foundation, Liz has played an integral role in shaping the strategic vision of the PCMA Education Foundation.  Her work with the Education Foundation also includes serving as Chair of the Foundation’s Silent Auction. Eduardo Chaillo: Serving on the PCMA Education Foundation Board of Trustees since 2010, Eduardo Chaillo, CMP, CMM has long been an advocate for the global meetings industry.  He served for 6 years on the ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) Board of Directors representing North America and is the international representative to the CMP Board of Directors within the CIC umbrella. Eduardo was instrumental in the development of PCMA’s Mexico Chapter and the Economic Significance Study of the Mexico meetings industry.

Recently he received the JMIC’s Profile and Power Award, and Successful Meetings Magazine named him one of the 25 Most Influential People in the Meetings Industry. He continues to shape the meetings and events landscape as the founder of Global Meetings and Tourism Specialists, a firm that helps companies, destinations and venues grow their North American business within the meetings and tourism industry.

Peggy Daidakis: In addition to serving as the Executive Director of the Baltimore Convention Center for the past 27 years, Peggy Daidakis has also dedicated her time to serving on the Board of the International Association of Venue Managers Foundation and the Center for Exhibition Research.

Stephen Powell: As the meetings industry continues to expand in new markets, Steve Powell has helped InterContinental Hotels Group lead the charge for the past 10 years, and he also helps advance global incentive travel through his work with the Site International Foundation. In 2010, Business Travel News recognized Powell as one of the most influential executives.
