The Golfe: Uniting the meetings industry over a game of golf

Jennifer N. Dienst

Back in 1983, professionals working in the meetings industr y noticed that the number of networking golf tournaments was rising. The Golfe was e stablished as an organization dedicated to educate those individuals in the meetings , hospitality, and travel industries to improve communication skills and fellowship through the game of golf. Twenty-nine years later, The Golfe is well regarded as the umbrella golf society for meeting professionals. The Golfe currently sanctions 40 golf tournaments annually around the country, representing such organizations as ASAE, CEIR, DMAI, IAEE, MPI, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, and Hyatt Hotels and Resorts. The winners of these events are invited to attend the MEETING MASTERS Championship, an annual event scheduled at premier golf destinations (that is also open to industry members who have not won a golf tournament).

The Golfe also offers membership benefits ranging from The Golfe Custom Handicap Program, mini trade shows representing facilities and services around the United States, industry discount s, philanthropic opportunities, and much more.

This year’s MEETING MASTERS Championship will take place in San Diego at the Rancho Bernardo Inn, Nov. 14–18. The Omni Amelia Island Plantation in Amelia Island, Fla., will host the event Nov. 20–24, 2013.
